  • To provide leadership and guidance to the planning, organisation, direction and control of the Audit function for the Luxembourg Bank
  • The Head of Audit will hold the key function of “Chief Internal Auditor” and will report to the Audit Committee and hierarchically to the CEO as the member of Authorised Management with responsibility for internal audit. The Head of Audit will also have direct access to the Audit Committee and the Chairperson of the Board
  • Further, in order to ensure the independence and objectivity of the internal audit function the Head of Audit will maintain a functional reporting line to the Regional (EMEA) Head of Audit and ultimately to the General Auditor of NTC
  • Responsible for performing the necessary risk assessment and establishing the periodic (annual) audit plans for the Applicant, covering Luxembourg and branch locations. These plans will include all compulsory audits required by the CSSF
  • Works closely with the CEO of the Luxembourg Bank and other Senior Leaders in Luxembourg to understand current and planned business activities and to identify, assess and mitigate risks in the business and embed a risk culture
  • Working with Risk and Compliance partners across the EMEA region, ensuring appropriate interaction with regional and global Risk and Compliance functions
  • Has an appreciation of prudential regulatory requirements, credit risk issues, compliance risk and market/regulatory developments and ability to assess impact and identify associated risk issues
  • Ensures support provided by other audit teams (based in North America, EMEA or APAC) is coordinated and properly covers the relevant risk areas
  • Actively participates in the Global Audit Services Management Team that establishes tactical and strategic plans to meet the goals of the Department
  • Oversees and manages all audit activities within assigned areas of responsibility. Establishes an effective risk-based audit program and is responsible for its execution within the established budget
  • Responsible for the audit team’s adherence to the Corporate/Department Policies and Standards and ensuring work is performed within established timeframes
  • Reviews audit reports to ensure clear and concise communication of risks and audit issues to Senior and Executive Management
  • Interacts and partners with Executive and Senior Management to understand the risks within Luxembourg Banking Entity, business changes and other significant events that could significantly affect the Legal Entities and/or the Audit Plan
  • Lead communications with management, board of directors, audit committee, regulators, external auditors, and the audit team to convey key and complex messages to influence organizational action
  • Advise management on any remedial action required to correct identified weaknesses in corporate-wide systems and controls
  • Ensure the provision of accurate and timely reports to relevant Governance Committees
  • Support the tone from the top for the EMEA region through creating a culture where everyone has ownership and responsibility for doing the right thing in accordance with the Conduct rules, because it is the right thing to do
  • Act as a role model and demonstrate behaviors in a way that is aligned to the Conduct framework and enforces the values and ethical standards of the business
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with relevant regulatory bodies and other relevant third parties e.g. external auditors, external advisors
  • Encourage an environment of employee participation, teamwork and open communication
  • Operate the Luxembourg Audit function’s activities with regard to applicable laws and regulations
  • Follow-up and validate completion of management actions driven by internal or external findings
  • Conducts the performance management process for direct reports and oversees the process, along with identifying training and development needs for the Luxembourg Banking Entity audit team

Your profile:

  • Extensive experience in Financial Services Internal Audit (10-15 years with vast majority in either professional services firm or relevant financial institution)
  • Appreciation of the issues faced by this company and business sector and the challenges faced by senior management operating within a heavily regulated environment
  • Advanced proficiency in decision making and judgement based on strategy, structure, and understanding of business, risks, controls, and technologies
  • Advanced analytical, leadership, communication, and organizational skills, including presenting at board level and managing broad unstructured projects
  • Professional certifications (e.g., ACCA, ACA, CA, or IIA) or an MBA along with demonstrated technical abilities in select areas (e.g., accounting, audit, compliance) are preferred
  • Knowledgeable of internal audit best practices with proven ability to implement and deliver operational, compliance, and financial opinions
  • Smart, articulate and displays strong communications skills / interpersonal skills
  • A college or university degree and/or similar public accounting experience
  • Management experience of small / professional teams
